About Farmerline Fellowship Program

Since 2013, Farmerline has directly helped farmers to improve their productivity and profit globally and also provided technical support to other organizations to do the same. Farmerline started its operations serving 800 farmers in the Ashanti Region of Ghana with information via mobile information services. 

The Farmerline Fellowship Program is designed for early-career professionals and recent graduates who are passionate about driving impact in agriculture, technology, and rural development. The program offers a hands-on opportunity to work alongside Farmerline’s teams, gaining practical experience while contributing to real projects that improve the lives of farmers across Africa. The roles are designed for candidates with limited formal work experience but with an understanding of agriculture, technology, data services, or community-based development work.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Data Science Fellow who is passionate about using data and AI to solve real-world problems in agriculture. As a Fellow, you will support our data and AI initiatives, working on a range of projects from traditional machine learning models to cutting-edge AI technologies like large language models (LLMs) and computer vision. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in applying data science to create measurable impact for farmers


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the BI & Data Science team to explore, clean, and analyze large datasets using Python (pandas, numpy, etc.)
  • Build, evaluate, and deploy machine learning models using libraries such as scikit-learn, or TensorFlow
  • Support experimentation and research on cutting-edge AI topics, including LLMs, computer vision, and predictive modeling in agriculture
  • Develop data visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Power BI, matplotlib, or seaborn to communicate insights effectively
  • Contribute to reporting and monitoring systems that inform product and operational decisions
  • Document your work clearly and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to share learnings and insights
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends in AI/ML, data science, and agriculture technology

Who are you?

  • A strong foundation in programming concepts and hands-on experience writing Python code
  • Solid understanding of data science and machine learning frameworks (e.g., pandas, scipy, scikit-learn)
  • Familiarity or interest in advanced AI topics such as Large Language Models, computer vision, or generative AI
  • Exposure to data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, matplotlib, seaborn)
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a curious and growth-oriented attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-first approach
