Role Overview

The Crop Marketing Associate will be responsible for supporting the development of business with agribusinesses and food manufacturers. The key deliverables would be to ensure market access opportunities for smallholder farmers involved in the production of Shea. Importantly, the Crop Marketing Associate will assist in securing fair prices for smallholder farmers in Farmerline’s network. 

The mission is to create lasting profit for the farmers while creating jobs for community-led micro-entrepreneurs in the value chains we work in. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Assist in securing purchase orders from local and international food processors and exporters of Shea.
  • Support crop marketing operations to ensure timely delivery of purchase orders in the required quality and quantities.
  • Assist in negotiations for local and international purchase orders, under supervision.
  • Stay informed about market trends and intelligence to support the identification of new business opportunities.
  • Support in coordinating procurement and market-related logistics, including storage and transportation.
  • Contribute to the development of market access models for Shea and other major crops produced in Ghana.
  • Collaborate with other units to ensure farmers receive necessary training, agro-inputs, and digital payments.
  • Assist in developing and acquiring new customers based on provided or generated leads.
  • Contribute to establishing marketing and promotional plans with the team.
 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural science, agribusiness, and supply chain management.
  • A minimum of 2 years of proven work experience in Shea trading/marketing in Ghana. 
  • Strong research and field experience in Shea production is required.
  • Project management skills and the ability to create and stick to timelines. 
  • Knowledge of the systemic challenges in the Shea value chain in Ghana and a passion for creating lasting solutions to them.
  • Ability to navigate farming communities.
  • Proven experience in the use of mobile technology to facilitate market access. 
  • Strong business analysis, planning and financial management skills
  • Excellent oral communication, writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to speak Twi and multiple languages across northern Ghana is an added advantage.
  • Contract negotiation and business development skills required.
 

Desirable

  • Ability to speak multiple Ghanaian languages is an added advantage
  • Experience in other crops such as Maize, Rice, Cashew, Soybean, etc is an added advantage
