Role Overview

We are seeking the expertise of a skilled and experienced Agronomist to play a pivotal role in providing technical knowledge to Farmerline’s customers, staff and other partners in achieving our mission of creating lasting profit for farmers. The Agronomist drives the most impactful agricultural practices that lead to high productivity for farmers and provides backstopping to our farm services. For this, we are recruiting an experienced agricultural professional for technical agronomic advisory support such as leading farmer education programs and product trials within various value chains in West Africa. The role also requires the specialist to have high extension experience, research, and be keen on behaviour change to increase farmer adoption of best management practices.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Support Farmerline’s farmer extension and advisory services by developing and improving farmer and agent training materials 
  • Provides technical expertise in assisting the Input and Crop business Units to deliver services to customers
  • Ensures farmer education via technology to increase the number of farmers we reach with good agricultural practices.
  • Plans and facilitates training sessions to ensure efficient delivery of content through lead trainers.
  • Leads Farmerline’s climate strategy by designing and completing agricultural field research pilots.
  • Assists in field monitoring to promote best management practices during workshops and farm coaching
  • Conduct Crop cutting Experiments to estimate the yield of farmers growing soybean, maize, rice and other relevant crops  within Farmerline’s network 
  • Provide technical backstopping to Call Center team in administering advisory services to farmers
  • Technical Assistance on business meetings and proposal writing
  • Assists in the establishment of demonstration plots for product quality tests, writing reports with recommendations 
  • Provide technical advice and support on related initiatives and special projects to other units within the organisation
  • Ensures the implementation high-impact projects to promote farmer resilience
 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of work experience in agronomy, agricultural extension, and research
  • Master degree in Agronomy, Agribusiness, Agricultural Science, or related field preferred
  • Strong research experience with experiments to compare different treatments for testing new agro-input products with a logical experimentation plan
  • Extensive crop production experience of cereals, legumes, cash crops, and tubers predominant in West Africa (specifically; soybean, maize, cocoa, cashew, sorghum, rice, and vegetables) is required
  • Excellent oral communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in English; ability to speak French and other local languages is an added advantage
  • Proven experience in the use of mobile technology to drive farmer success is desired
