Role Overview

The Senior Finance Officer will be responsible for the delivery of accounting and financial reporting services while ensuring strict compliance to internal policies, International Financial Reporting Standards and local legislations.

Responsibilities 

Accounting duties

  • Maintain and update data into accounting Software for all payment vouchers and journals.
  • Monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts in accounting software
  • Vet Petty Cash claims and initiate action for payment in line with laid down procedures.
  • Maintain and update records of all accounting transactions with all accounts.
  • Maintain professional relationships with banks, external auditors and other stakeholders in the area of financial management.
  • Provide support to external auditors during annual audit activities
  • Implement the budget of the Finance Department in line with approved guidelines.
  • Prepare variance analysis of revenue and expenditure against approved budget
  • Disburse petty cash/imprest to staff and/pr consultants as assigned
  • Ensure 100% accountability for all funds disbursed
  • Implement approved Accounting/Financial Policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work plans in managing the Finance Department to achieve set targets.
  • Vet payment vouchers and process through the General Ledger for approval/payment.
  • Reconcile balance sheet items and/or General Ledger for review by Superior Officers.
  • Provide support to external auditors during annual audit activities
  • Perform any other duty(s) assigned by superiors

Statutory compliance

  • Prepare and submit taxes and pensions on monthly basis
  • Ensure 100% compliance with any other statutory compliance
  • Lead tax audits
  • Apply for and obtain tax clearance as and when required

Project reporting

  • Prepare project financial reports on quarterly basis
  • Ensure that project expenditures meet donor and funder guidelines
  • Lead project financial audits and due diligence

Qualifications and skills

  • A university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Three (3) years relevant working experience
  • Should be fluent in both written and spoken English Language
  • Strong excel knowledge
  • Good understanding of IFRS
