Role Overview

As part of business growth and expansion, Farmerline is seeking an experienced GIS specialist to join our Business Intelligence and Data Science team. This data-driven role requires a combination of analytical thinking, operational expertise, and solid stakeholder management. The GIS specialist will work cross-functionally with the corporate services unit as well as the engineering and Farmer Services units and will directly influence decision making and strategy implementation at a global scale. This is an exciting opportunity to be directly involved in helping farmers make profit everywhere. 

 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the business’ mapping activities. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are key to this role as business units will be developing strategies and plans based on your analysis, insights and solutions

Responsibilities 

  • Design, develop and implement systems and databases for geospatial data
  • Standardize geographic data
  • Research and conduct tests on new mapping tools and strategies
  • Perform geospatial modeling and spatial analysis
  • Build predictive models using geospatial and satellite data
  • Implement GIS data accuracy checks
  • Build, update and maintain databases and GIS software and hardware
  • Administer and troubleshoot applications and GIS solutions

 

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years in GIS roles
  • Proficiency with GIS software and data management such as ArcGis, Google Maps API, Mapbox, etc
  • Use of data visualization tools such as Power BI and python libraries such as Matplotlib, Plotly, D3, seaborn etc   
  • Experience working with and building databases such as MongoDB and PostgreSQL.                              
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams.
  • Ability to adjust and adapt to changes in role priorities and goals.
  • Strong B2B, B2C / B2BC domain knowledge.
  • Strong experience in agricultural operations.
  • Experience building machine learning models particularly with geospatial and satellite data
  • Detail-oriented and analytical thinker
  • Knowledge of programming languages, preferably python 
  • Ability to process and analyze data
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies such as Azure and AWS is a plus.
